FRIENDSHIP FLIGHT 2005
JAPAN [ AUSTRALIA

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP AND ADVENTURE
2005 marks the 25th anniversary of the sister City relationship between Sydney
and Nagoya.
It also marks the 25 years since the founding of the Sister State relationship
between Victoria State and Aichi Prefecture,of which Nagoya is the capital.
Aichi Prefecture is host to the World EXPO 2005 Aichi Japan, and the new Chubu
International Airport south of Nagoya is to commence operations from early 2005.
The Friendship Flight 2005 project is designed to commemorate all of these major
events.
WHAT IS FRIENDSHIP FLIGHT 2005?
The main theme to Friendship Flight 2005 is, as the title suggests, enhancing
friendship between Australia and Japan.
It also encompasses educational childrens activities and environmental issues.
Using a light helicopter, the team will depart from Melbourne February 28. 2005,
flying from Australia to New Guinea, various Indonesian Islands, via the Philippines
and Taiwan.
A range of events and functions are planned en route before arriving at our
destination,
World EXPO 2005 Aichi Japan, 2 and a half weeks later and just ahead of a special
series of events planned
by the Australian Pavilion.
The flight will be conducted by Australian born, Nagoya based radio DJ and television
personality,
Chris Glenn, along with Aichi Prefecture based flight school operator, Takashi
Nishimori.
The two pilots will fly through 6 countries making at least 35 stops.
Environmental conditions and issues along the route will be documented,
international ties strengthened and communications between officials of the
Sister
State / Sister City, as well as between school children will be carried for
delivery upon arrival
WHY A HELICOPTER?
Although flying a helicopter is by far more difficult than flying a plane,
helicopters are generally safer than light fixed wing aircraft, and much
more maneuverable.
This is an advantage, particularly on such an adventure,
as we intend being able to land at schools or nearby fields as part of our educational
and friendship projects. Further,by using a helicopter we are able to gain a
better
viewof the state of the land, air and sea environment.
The challenge and adventure of flying by helicopter creates a wave of excitement
that makes this project attractive to the media.
